Project Purpose
The Manipur State Water Supply Project, generously funded by the New Development Bank (NDB), represents a transformative initiative aimed at elevating the quality of life across Manipur through enhanced water accessibility. Comprising 17 strategically interconnected water supply projects, this scheme innovatively integrates the collection of raw water from reliable local sources with advanced treatment processes at dedicated Water Treatment Plants (WTPs). The treated water is efficiently stored in strategically constructed Overhead Tanks, which are pivotal for ensuring a steady, gravity-assisted flow directly to households. This well-planned infrastructure significantly upgrades the region’s water distribution network, guaranteeing thousands of residents safe, reliable, and sustainable drinking water at their doorsteps.
By addressing critical water infrastructure challenges with innovation and forward-thinking engineering, this ambitious project doesn’t just supply water—it empowers communities, nurtures health and well-being, and lays a strong foundation for sustained regional development in Manipur.
Project Deliverables
- Intake Well: Critical raw water sourcing structure constructed at multiple sources, some of them being Thoubal River, Heirok River, Wangjing River etc. including comprehensive electromechanical installations for efficient water extraction. There are different types of intake structures that are being constructed in this project such as step type intake well, intake weir, and dug well.
- Approach Bridge: Constructed to ensure accessibility to the intake well, facilitating regular maintenance and operational activities.
- Raw Water Rising Main (RWRM): Ensures effective transportation of raw water to the WTP through carefully selected DI K7 pipelines.
- Water Treatment Plant (WTP): Utilizes advanced Rapid Sand Filtration technology for treatment, including components such as Aerator, Clariflocculator, Filter House, Chlorination Facility, Chemical House, Sludge Drying Bed and a Clear Water Reservoir to guarantee the safety of potable water.
- Clear Water Rising Main (CWRM): Efficiently transports treated water using high-pressure capable DI K7 pipelines, addressing current and future water demands.
- Elevated Service Reservoirs (ESRs): Strategically positioned reservoirs operating via gravity to maintain adequate pressure and distribution throughout the network ranging from 200KL to 450KL
- Distribution Network: Extensive GI pipeline network precisely designed to manage optimal water flow and pressure for household connections.
- House Service Connections (HSC): Robust household connection infrastructure providing reliable, tap-controlled water access. A total of 1230 Nos. of Connections are to be done as a part of this project.
- Electro Mechanical Works: The project requires us to install pumping machinery designed with high efficiency and reliability to manage varying water demands across extensive geographical and elevation ranges by helping in the movement of the fluid from one point to another.
